Country Roads: Come to My Home!
Okay, I will admit it: I love rustic, natural-looking furniture with a lot of character. I love to see the flaws in the wood, make up a story about where the boards have been and what they have seen. Reclaimed wood is a piece of history that draws you in and surrounds you with a special kind of serenity.
Barnwood is one of my favorites. Since I was a little girl I have looked upon those rural structures with a sort of awe. Now I want to celebrate those agricultural icons by rescuing pieces of them and bringing them into my home.
While visiting a rustic furniture website recently, I found a spectacular specimen from Idaho Wood Shop. It is the Country Roads Buffet & Hutch made completely from reclaimed wood and only $1,657.00. Some boards even still show signs of the red paint characteristically used to seal the wood of barns.
At first glance, I wanted immediately to bring this piece home to my dining room. However, after looking at it a little longer, I knew it could fill a different purpose. We are finishing our basement and will need a sturdy surface for a TV and its electronic friends. This buffet and hutch would be nearly perfect for the role. The TV, if the right size, would nestle right into the space between the buffet top and the arch of the hutch. Electronic accessories tuck away into the upper shelves, and movies and games are right at home behind the upper doors. The buffet drawers and shelves leave plenty of storage room for board games, crafting supplies, books and magazines, and other little knickknacks. I already put this piece on my wish list for future purchase!
