Rainy Days and Mondays
What are your feelings on rainy days? Most of the people I talk to have a really difficult time getting out of bed when the sky is cloudy and the sound of falling rain is penetrating the windows. This past Monday we had some real gully-washers come through the area. As soon as I woke up I could hear the whoosh of the rain hitting the window and the ping-ping of the water falling through the gutters. I decided to roll over to catch a few more z’s before waking up to face the day.
Rainy days seem to be made for curling up in a cozy bed with a good book or maybe some entertaining movies. If I’m like most people, my energy levels are very low when the sun is hiding behind the clouds and the dampness of the rain seems to slow my muscles. It really is the best time to catch up on magazines and books that have been ignored with the nice spring weather beckoning me to get outside and enjoy.
Some people really enjoy and welcome rainy days, for various reasons I suppose. Perhaps they enjoy having the opportunity and excuse to slow down and catch up. Or maybe they enjoy being out in the rain, reveling in its cleansing properties. It could be to take advantage of the lack of others out traversing in the rain. A friend of mine visited us in DC and it just so happened that one of the days we had planned to visit the monuments, a steady rain was falling. She and I braved the elements anyway, and were able to enjoy the parks and statues without having to elbow through people and fight our way to the front row to fully view the awesome monuments.
For me, I think that I’ll just take my rainy days as a sign to slow down, relax, and catch up on some reading. My cozy barnwood bed is glad to accommodate me on those days. I can spend all day lounging in the fabulous company of my cat and my dog, who are more than happy to oblige participating in a sleepy day. Enjoy your rainy day and we shall meet again when the sun shines and the fair breezes blow.
